Only 2000 were imported to the US in 91 and 1000 in 92. Each car is branded with a brass dash plaque designating the car's number, as well as a matching key fob.

Why did I go with an odd car like this? As a hobbyist, I enjoy working on performance cars. This car has the same exact drivetrain as the 1G DSMs. Most power modifications will fit on this car, making big power to all 4 wheels with the right components. This makes for a powerful sleeper car.

What's nice:

  • Decently powerful stock engine at 195hp with 5 speed manual and potential for lots of horsepower
  • Novelty of a limited production vehicle
  • Comfortable roomy interior, leather, power everything, power sunroof
  • No one knows it's a VR-4 unless one looks closely
  • Less annoying kiddies trying to race me at every light

Current performance modifications:

  • 95 pistons, 8.5:1 compression
  • 3" turbo-back exhaust
  • ACT 2600 clutch and ACT chromoly flywheel
  • Trans rebuilt with double-synchro 2nd gear
  • 1G DSM shifter with symborski bushings for shorter, precise throws
  • GReddy Profec-B Spec2 boost controller
  • Keydiver modified ECU with goodies, like: 2 step rev limiter, knock display on dash cluster, speed limiter delete, A/C cutoff at WOT, and some other things I can't remember

Instrumentation:

  • GReddy 60mm Boost and EGT on A-pillar
  • MMCd datalogger using color Palm IIIc

Performance metrics:
The project has only begun. I'll have 1/4 mile and dyno figures will be made when the time comes. In its present state, it makes what feels like 20hp over stock.

Next steps?

  • Evo III 16G turbo, ported by Forced Performance
  • EVO 3 exhaust manifold
  • Some kind of Spearco intercooler with hard intake pipes; considering something that'll fill the entire front fascia opening
  • DSMLink
  • 2G DSM MAF sensor
  • 660cc fuel injectors
  • Supra fuel pump
  • Adjustible FPR
